Spring isn’t officially here, but it certainly feels like it here in California! It’s finally sunny and warm and with Daylight Savings, it’s bright until 7:30 PM! Leaving work while it’s still sunny outside is one of the best feelings – it makes the 45 minute commute home so much more enjoyable. With the warmer weather, I’ve been shedding my usual coat for some lighter layers. Continue Reading
In exactly a week from now, I will be on a plane returning to Houston. I will be celebrating my birthday as well as a very important and probably the most exciting tradition at Rice with my friends. To pay homage to this exciting time, why not have a Throwback Thursday blog post?
What I’ve learned from living in Houston is that when it’s hot and humid, you can wear whatever you want. Crop top, bikini, naked, silk underwear, nothing is going to save your head from the perils of frizz even a keratin treatment can’t repel. My quick solution, throw your hair into a messy bun and be done with it.
As for clothes, always wear something loose and that won’t stick to your body like static cling. My choice is a cotton shift dress, which I snagged at a boutique in China. Don’t mistake my dress for a brown paper bag dress – the crochet details and chiffon trim adds dimension and texture to what looks like a plain dress. A jean jacket is the quintessential jacket for spring and summer and mine is from a lá Gap (on mega sale last season). The boots are Shoemint and make me feel vaguely badass in the same way a bralette vaguely makes me feel like pre-pubescent teen.

Maybe you remember the days when you would stress about your first day of school outfit, maybe you don’t. The lazy days of summer are coming to an end, so it looks like it’s that time of year again. Normally, I dread the first day of school; I mean, let’s get real- does anyone really want to be up til the wee hours of the morning doing homework? The silver lining of the beginning of school is that you get to spruce up your wardrobe and “dress” up for class. Anyone else excited about this? Yes? No?
Nothing screams “BAM! I’m ready for school” more than some crimson red skinny jeans. I paired the jeans with a stripped polo shirt and a cotton blazer to add a preppy flair. Since it’s still pretty hot, a light blazer is perfect because you can take it off when you are walking to class, but if your professor appears to believe that absolute zero is the ideal classroom temperature, you can just slip it back on and you are good to go!
Since wedges are all the rage right now, why not be in on the trend on the first day of school with some black wedge booties that are perfect for the summer and fall? In addition to looking fresh to death, you will be taller than all your friends. (If you haven’t noticed, I like being tall).
As for accessories, an arm party is always in style.

What are you wearing for your first day of school?
I have been loving wearing neutrals with a pop of color, but instead of using bold accessories, I have kept my clothes and shoes bright and playful while using toned down jewelry. This outfit is great for a girl who is on the go and wants an effortless chic look.
I love these shoes from Shoemint, so I decided to build an outfit around them. These shoes are great because they have a small heel, and since my closet contains mostly neutral colors, they fit in perfectly.
I’ve paired these shoes with jean shorts and a red striped shirt to keep the look summer appropriate and casual. As for accessories, I chose a Michael Kors white and rose gold watch because it’s neutral while stillcontributing a nice statement piece to any arm party. To make your accessories stand out more, try adding a big cocktail ring.
I have been loving slight cat-eyed sunglasses and these nude ones are so cute. I love how they are subtly colored but uniquely shaped.
Finally, any girl on the go needs a big bag and this Mulberry purse is perfect because it is spacious but can also be transformed into a crossbody bag for added convenience.
Hope all of you are embracing color this summer!
