Layering Outerwear

A few weeks ago, my friend, Lauren, got a pass to the Mountain Hardwear employee store. Mountain Hardwear is an outdoor clothing and equipment store. Since skiing season has begun, we were both looking to get some new gear at some great prices, and let me tell you, there were some great deals. I will say one thing though, the men’s section definitely had a better selection in terms of colors and design. I ended up shopping in the men’s section and picked up some great base layers and an awesome jacket that turned out to be great for layering.

For some reason, women’s outdoor wear only come in black, pink, purple, or teal. Well, I’m not a pink, purple, or teal type of gal, so I just end up with a lot of black. Now I’m not mad about that because black is great and very slimming, but sometimes, want to mix it up.

What I’ve noticed is that the men’s section has jackets that come in better colors and color combinations. They also just have more options than the women’s department. I guess since the women’s department gets so much attention in so many other clothing categories, the men’s department has to get the spotlight whenever it can.

I found this awesome tan jacket in the mens section and it was so big and cozy that I had to try it one. Thankfully it came in a “Small” and it looked okay on me. It was over-sized, but I was kind of into the over-sized/masculine look it gave. I immediately added it to the pile of clothes that were already in my arms.

When I got home and started styling it, I decided to try and “fill” out the jacket a bit more by adding another jacket underneath it. I added a leather jacket underneath and it made the whole outfit come together. Not only is this outfit super warm, but it has a edgy and masculine feel to it, which I am loving right now.

Do you shop in the men’s section at a store? Let me know!

Stay Chic!
