Mom jeans. Do we love them or hate them? Are we be embarrassed that we’re dabbling into a style that our mom’s wore “back in the day?” or the fact that our moms actually approve of these jeans because our butt cracks aren’t hanging out when we sit down (don’t act like that’s never happened to you before).
A few weeks ago, one of my best friends from high school was preparing to move to Oregon for a new job and she planned a going away party in downtown Palo Alto. As always, I waited until the last minute to figure out what I was going to wear and I had one of those quintessential moments of just standing in front of my closet thinking, “What the hell am I going to wear?!”
Figuring out what you’re going to wear for a night out is always tricky -there’s a fine line between “This looks nice and I’m okay if someone spills their drink on it” and “Nope. This is too precious to even be near a drink.” I also think a night out is a perfect time to try something different because it’s going to be dark and people are going to be drinking, so even if you look weird, ya can’t look that weird.
For this particular night out, I decided to take both thoughts into account. I decided with these mom-esque jeans because I only wear them to work. I have never worn them in any other capacity, so I wanted to see what they would look like outside of work. My top I got off the sale rack at Target so I had no problem if that got dirty. The real concern was my jacket. This jacket is probably one of my favorite jackets because it’s designed to be worn to-and-from the gym, but since it has moto jacket silhouette, I can wear it wherever I want. I would be upset if someone spilled their drink on it, but since it’s machine washable, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if somebody did. Thankfully nobody did. Phew!
What are your night out staples? Let me know!
