Trapped in DTLA: A Travel Diary

Whenever I pack for my weekend trips to LA, I am always torn between packing clothes that I just bought, but haven’t figured how to style and my closet staples – items that I know will go with everything and are extremely versatile. Since it was supposed to be cloudy and raining all weekend, packing was quite easy because the possibility of rain really limited what I could bring.

The one item of clothing I knew I had to bring was my new puffy jacket. I bought this jacket about two months ago and I have been LIVING it in it because it’s super flattering, versatile, and most importantly, keeps me nice and toasty. I absolutely love this jacket because it’s not your typical puffy jacket. It is kind of hybrid between a puffy jacket, an anorak, and a bomber jacket. It’s also in a cool-toned army green shade which I think goes with pretty much anything and everything.

On Saturday, my S.O. and I spent most of our day in downtown LA. Our first stop was at Think Tank. They had this awesome free exhibit called Breaking Bread and all the sculptures were made out of cake. The museum is in the middle of the fashion district and it was crazy busy. Parking was a struggle. It was totally worth it though because the exhibit was so unique and eccentric. Also, upon leaving, there was this lady selling churros and they were duh-licious! Those churros really hit the spot.

Our second stop was a nice surprise. We were planning on watching a movie, Deadpool, to be exact, but as we were trying to get out of the chaotic fashion district, we stumbled upon Grand Park. We decided to forgo the movie and instead, wandered around for an hour or so taking pictures of City Hall and its surrounding.

City Hall

Our favorite building in that area was surprisingly the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (weird, I know), but the view from that building is amazing. You can see the Walt Disney Concert Hall on one end and the rest of downtown on the other –it was quite the view.

Sunday was definitely a sleep in and chill kind of day. It had rained all Saturday night, but it had stopped raining by morning. We decided to hit up a flea market and just wandered around for a couple of hours. I’m really happy I brought my boyfriend jeans and sneakers because we were walking for a long time!
