Ever since I dyed my hair for the first time in February and then used bleach to go lighter in June, I have been trying to keep my hair as healthy as possible. My natural hair is thick and black. I also have a lot of hair; so much that if I don’t get long layers, I begin to vaguely resemble a lion. My hair is pretty sensitive to very rich and moisturizing products because my hair can easily get weighed down and greasy, so I have been trying to find products that give me just the right amount of moisture.
For me, finding the right shampoo was the hardest because I needed one that contained no sodium chloride and was preferably sulfate free. Living Proof Full Shampoo was one of the very few shampoos that filled both of these criteria and it gives a very gentle cleanse. It does a good job of cleansing my hair without completely stripping away all the oil.
A shampoo I recently discovered is actually a solid shampoo by Lush and I like to use this product once or twice a week just to do a deeper cleanse and really get rid of any product build-up. Since I use styling and heat protectant products on my hair every time I blow dry, build-up can occur and after a while, my hair starts to look a little lifeless and flat. This Lush shampoo does a really good job of getting rid of build-up without over drying my hair and scalp.
As for conditioner, I like to keep it simple with a rebalancing conditioner. I have a tendency to get really oily, so this Aveeno conditioner is really light, but it balances out the moisture and oil levels in my hair, leaving it really smooth and soft. Wow, that sounded like a commercial, but I promise, it is that good.
Finally, since I try not to wash my hair everyday, I use dry shampoo to extend the life of each wash. To be honest, I don’t have a particular dry shampoo I am attached to; I kind of try whatever is available.
That is my haircare routine! I like to keep it pretty simple and my hair has gotten a lot healthier and smoother since I last got my hair dyed, so I’m pretty satisfied with my routine.
