A White and Black Affair

Netflix recently notified me that the first season of Laguna Beach was available for streaming.  In case you forgot what this gem of a reality show was, it first aired just as reality TV began to take-off.  You might also recall it as the predecessor to reality shows such as The Hills and The City.  Being in a state of nostalgia, I decided to watch a few episodes and I came across the “Black & White Affair” episode.  I found the title to be quite humorous as only one person was wearing white.

Now, provided you agree with me, white is not the world’s most flattering color.  But since I always like a good challenge, I give you an outfit that is mostly white with some strategically placed black accents.

When I first saw these Free People pants, I was scared because white pants are known to be quite unforgiving and I could have easily looked like a marshmallow.  But after trying them on, I was pleasantly surprised because the black stripe down the side really lengthened my legs – marshmallow status averted.

Wanting to stay with the black and white theme of the pants, I chose a cream sweater that had an unexpected cut-out pattern in the back.  Since the sweater is a little plain in the front, I added a bold black bib necklace.  As for shoes, a pair of combat boots will give you a little edge and a kick in your step.

Stay Chic!
