Now that summer is in full swing, it’s time to break out and rock bright colors. In case you haven’t noticed, neon colors are in stores everywhere, and for the first time, I’ve decided to dive into this trend.
If you look in my closet, you will find that the majority of my clothes are black, navy, or grey. I rarely dabble in bright colors because trends come and go, and I like to stick with the classics. I have come to realize, however, that the bright color trend recurs EVERY summer, because really, who wants to wear black when it’s blazing hot outside? I finally decided to invest in these hot pink chino shorts from J. Crew. I saw them in the store, and it was love at first sight. I bought these shorts firstly because they are chinos, so they can be dressed up or dressed down. Secondly, they are a lot more breathable than jean shorts. They are bright, but not too bright, so they are easy to accentuate but can also be to toned down.
These shorts are a classic piece because you can pair them with basically any neutral-colored top and have a look that is perfect for summer. Also, summer doesn’t really end until September in Houston, so I will be getting a lot of wear out of them. Here are three ways that I have styled my chino shorts:
The first look follows the color blocking trend. These shorts are great for color blocking because they are rich in color. Just find a bright top like this cobalt blue tank, and you’ve got yourself a casual outfit for the day. The thing to remember about color blocking is that you have to wear saturated colors so the colors will accentuate each other. The second look is on the girly side. The neutral top tones down the brightness of the shorts and the floral design brings attention to the top rather than to the shorts. This outfit is great for a lunch out with your friends.
The last look is a combination of the bright color and nautical trend. The striped shirt helps tone down the shorts and it adds a preppy twist to the outfit. The shirt has bright orange and cream stripes. The orange gives a bit of a color contrast to the outfit, while the cream balances out the colors.
Another fun idea to is to wear a pastel colored shirt. The pastel color will balance out the brightness of the shorts, creating a polished summer look.
I hope all of you are embracing the bright color trend! If you are scared of bright colors, pair them with neutrals to create a classic sophisticated look. Stay Chic!
